Response to Mazer

After reading the story Mazer wrote I would say that I have a neutral stance on this issue. I didn’t find the story to hard to read as I thought because what was said in class. To me I think that the Power Team is taking the wrong approach to get more followers of God. It gives off a false impression to what believing in God means. I believe in him and I can’t break through steel chains and through blocks of ice. Although, I can see a lot of people attending this because it is exciting, almost more like going to watch Chris Angel. Which is not the point here, many people might join under false pretences and not be able to do these things and stop the believing because they cannot do these tasks. Also, if people are this gullible, it’s their own fault. Otherwise, they’re going to watch a show, than become a believer in God. That’s probably why this method works better than attending a church mass. It does seem like the whole part of the Power Team is a lure and you can see it coming from a mile away.

Response to Sedaris

I liked the story alot an found it easy to understand. Also, I thought it was funny and got alot of laughs. In a very mild way I can relate to him. I find myself tapping things in my house like the heater more than once and also checking the house door multiple times when i leave to make sure its locked even though I knew it was locked the first time. I felt bad for him in the story because it seemed that everyone was mean to him and didn't take his illness into consideration. It would be very challenging and stressful to go through life like he is  I think that smoking cigarettes occupied his mind and that left less free time for him to think extensively.

Response to Chuck Klosterman

When I first started reading this article by Chuck Klosterman I didn’t know what to think. It took a little bit for him to get to the point he was trying to state. I never really thought about laugh tracks before this and I didn’t even know they were called this. I just thought they were put into the TV shows because the writers and producers wanted them to be there and wanted people to laugh after what they thought was funny. For me, I am not really for or against laugh tracks. In some cases I think they make the show and when there’s one and it’s not funny which happens a lot, I don’t laugh. I don’t have a strong enough opinion about them to be for or against them. I thought it was interesting what Klosterman said about how people over in Germany don’t laugh out of obligation like Americans would. Soon as I finished reading that paragraph I realized how much I laugh at things others say because it just feels like the right thing to do even if I don’t find it funny. I’m gonna try to work on this! The Friends dialogue in this article was hard to interpret reading it then watching and hearing them talk. I still think if they would get rid of the laugh tracks on some of the TV shows, they would still be just as funny and I would still laugh.

Topic Introduction

I have been wondering about this question since I was 21. I have a pistol permit and I have been curious about if someone breaks into your house do you have the right to shoot them to protect yourself. So pretty much here is my question, if someone was to break into your house with a gun when do you have the right to protect yourself without getting into trouble with the law. I know a decent bit about this topic but have heard so many different stories on what you can and cannot do. So I would like to find out the truth behind all of this. In my opinion, if anyone enters your house without permission you should have the right to shoot them if you felt threatened. I have heard that the only way you could shoot someone who broke into your house is, if you had no other way of getting out of the house or if all entrances are blocked. It is not right that if someone broke into someone’s house in the middle of the night the home owner can’t protect his family because he is to worried about getting into trouble with the law.
Also, I might think about doing this research paper on search warrants. I would like to find out when the police do and don’t have the right to enter you homes.

Response to Matt Richtel

In my opinion technology is a very good thing, but not for Mr. Campbell in this article. It does show the bad effects that technology has on people who abuse it. I can’t believe that people can get so caught up on the internet that they could miss dinner plans! Another shocker was that he neglected his family and chose to let the internet consume his days. I thought the part about how multitaskers took longer than non multitaskers to switch among tasks was interesting. Finally, it was strange to hear but also did make sense after thinking about it that people who play video games have better reaction times and also are able to pick out details of amid clutter.

Intro

My name is Adam Basile and I am a sophomore at  IUP. I am creating this blog for my English 202 Research Writing class at IUP. This is my first blog post ever and after this class is over hopefully it will be my last. I had a facebook account but got rid of it a few months later. I'm not  into communicating on the internet. Let's see if blogging changes my mind.
